The Future is Green - The Future is Nano

Nanotechnology has shown the promise to increase food productivity to meet the needs of the ever-increasing population. Nanoagriculture focuses currently on target farming that involves the use of nanosized particles with unique properties to boost crop productivity. Nanotechnology has the potential to protect plants, promote plant growth, and increase global food production with enhanced food quality while reducing waste for "sustainable intensification". In 2016 the fertilizer usage was 180 million tonnes and pesticide usage were 6 million tonnes. About 60% to 90% of these chemicals were left in environment as plants cannot uptake everything that is applied. The leaves have a small cuticle size and plants cell wall pore size is around 5 to 20 nano meters. This limits the uptake and absorption of chemicals into the plant system, creating more pollution while marginally benefiting the plants. With Nano-Technology more than 90% of the actives are utilised by the plants and negligible run off.

Nanotechnology offers high profitability for the farmers. Nano products are required 50 to 100 times less than conventional products. Thereby reducing the storage. handling & transportation costs by more than 90%. Being in small packing the products for several acres can be couriered or delivered to farmers in small packages, making the right products available for immediate use. Nano products have unique features like ultrahigh absorption, increase in production, increased efficiency of the elements, reduction in frequency of application & increase in marketable produce. Reduced input costs, availability of right products, Increase in Yields with higher quality produce helps in increasing the profitability of agriculture. It helps in retaining and attracting farmers to do what they do best-Farming!
